Radiative Corrections for Pion Polarizability Experiments

چکیده
We use the semi-analytical program RCFORGV to evaluate radiative corrections to one-photon radiative emission in the high-energy scattering of pions in the Coulomb field of a nucleus with atomic number Z. It is shown that radiative corrections can simulate a pion polarizability effect. The average effect is α π = −β π = (0.20±0.05)×10cm, for pion energies 40-600 GeV. We also study the range of applicability of the equivalent photon approximation in describing one-photon radiative emission.

Pion and Kaon Polarizabilities and Radiative Transitions
CERN COMPASS plans measurements of γπ and γK interactions using 50-280 GeV pion (kaon) beams and a virtual photon target. Pion (kaon) polarizabilities and radiative transitions will be measured via Primakoff effect reactions such as πγ → π ′ γ and πγ → meson. The former can test a precise prediction of chiral symmetry; the latter for πγ → a1(1260) is important for understanding the polarizabili...

Objective: The electric (ᾱ) and magnetic (β̄) pion Compton polarizabilities characterize the pion’s deformation in the electromagnetic field of the γ during γπ Compton scattering. They depend on the rigidity of the pion’s internal structure as a composite particle. The polarizabilities deduced by Antipov et al. in their low statistics Primakoff experiment (∼ 7000 events) were ᾱπ = −β̄π = 6.8 ± 1....

Can one expect gamma rays rates from the QGP to be higher than from the hot hadronic gas phase? Xiong, Shuryak, Brown (XSB) calculate photon production from a hot hadronic gas via the reaction π+ρ → π−+γ. They assume that this reaction proceeds through the a1(1260). They also use their estimated a1 radiative width to calculate the pion polarizability; following a connection noted previously by ...

Fermilab E781 plans measurements of γ-Sigma and γ-pion interactions using a 600 GeV beam of Sigmas and pions, and a virtual photon target. Pion polarizabilities and radiative transitions will be measured in this experiment. The former can test a precise prediction of chiral symmetry; the latter for a1(1260)→ πγ is important for understanding the polarizability. The experiment also measures pola...
متن کاملRadiative corrections to the polarizability tensor of an electrically small anisotropic dielectric particle.
Radiative corrections to the polarizability tensor of isotropic particles are fundamental to understand the energy balance between absorption and scattering processes. Equivalent radiative corrections for anisotropic particles are not well known. Assuming that the polarization within the particle is uniform, we derived a closed-form expression for the polarizability tensor which includes radiat...
